everything to gain, nothing left to lose but a time bomb..

Well, I graduated from college! Greatest moment in my life so far! I've gone through quite a bit since I last blogged but all for the better. Like my friend Sheila said, "you've got to cut your losses" and believe me, I have. Sometimes you meet people in your life for a reason to teach you a lesson. I've learned it and it has made me stronger. Finding out who deserves to be in your life is crucial to being happy. I'm definitely excited for this summer! Going to the Blazed and Confused tour with Snoop Dogg, Mickey Avalon, Stephen Marley, Slightly Stoopid and others. Though it will be brutally hot (August) it'll be most chill. In other news, I got new laptop. Goodbye to the old Dell piece of shit! lol

As for music I'm currently listening to, I've discovered the wonder music of Roisin Murphy. The most velvety, gorgeous soulful voice I've heard since Annie Lennox (who I love!!). She's the front woman for the band Moloko, also within the same genre of music she does in her solo career. Beautiful, talented, dynamic and ultimately unique, she has become my favorite artist within the electronic music genre.

Some of her musical masterpieces include:
Primitive, Overpowered,Tell Everybody,Dear Miami

By the day, I've been more interested in reading. It's all I want to do! The books Spiced and Crybaby Butch are on my current reading list for the summer. Still going to purchase Nigella Lawson's How to Eat, since I've heard fabulous things about the book. Her writing and descriptions are absolutely engaging, perfect for rainy, cold days when her books are the most perfect thing to curl up with in bed (well, in true Nigella fashion, delicious mug of coco and some biscuits). I know I've mentioned this before and it's completely obvious, she's a gorgeous woman in all sense of the word. Everyone always says how good she looks for "her age". Hell, she looks fabulous for any age!!!, she puts girls my age to shame. Beauty like hers never ages. In this full video below she discovers her true lineage( indeed I was curious as most as to where her stunning beauty derives from). You even get to see her children, whom do not look like her in the least, unfortunately. I frequent her website, nigella.com, its so well designed, easy to navigate and has a wonderful little section I'm most addicted to, Nigella's Loves. She recommends all sorts of products, food and non-food that she has personally used and or uses. I love how she has this personal section on her site so her fans get a true sense of her as person behind the Domestic Goddess moniker.

Basically the French KNOW how to produce synth-tastic beats! Missing Persons are a constant staple, all of the cuts off of Spring Session M are brilliantly New Wave to this day. Day-glo colors and the Kanye West fashion aesthetic have freshened the Eighties again. Image and video hosting by TinyPic

^Mental Hopscotch!!!!!!! Terry and Warren killed the drums and guitar, respectively!

Santogold and her Dale Bozzio-esque vocals on 'L.E.S. Artistes' harkens back to a time where people could wear triangle earrings, neon flashes of color in platinum blonde hair and spandex.

^peep that Eighties swag...ohhhh yeah!

Animal Collective's "My Girls" reminiscent of 80's pop on a more underground level.

Duran Duran's " Anyone Out There" from thier first album, Duran Duran

Obscure bands produced by Bobby O, who famously produced the hit for Pet Shop Boys "West End Girls" in 1983 like One Two Three with "Another Knife in My Back" also from '83.

no lie, that beat completely through me for a loop first time it pumped into my earphones!

Feel free to luxuriate is all that is disco/synth pop/new wave incarnated in great bands at: http://discodust.blogspot.com/

Flosstradamus feat. Caroline Polacheck 'BIG BILLS'

Something non-New Wave related...I watched all of the seasons of Weeds over the winter break and completely fell in love with the show.

I love Celia (Elizabeth Perkins)!!! Nancy (Mary-Louise Parker) is my favorite character, though. Her brother-in-law Andy is hilarious and so is Doug Wilson hahaha "little boxes on the hillside, little boxes made of ticky-tacky little boxes on the hilliside, little boxes all the same..." the theme song is quirky just like the characters themselves.

shout out to lily :) thanks for reading my dorky little blog with my ramblings.

21 and being a N.E.R.D.

Long time no post. Life seems to get away from you sometimes. Being a college senior isn't easy. Stressful and amazing is how I could describe it. I've also turned 21 and that has added a major WOW factor to my college existence. Going to bars and meeting people has forced me to come out of my social shell (all though I have friends). I'm becoming more comfortable talking to people I've just met and creating great conversation. I can say that I've really involved my self in the last 2 years of my college career. Being a music director for the upstart of Simmons College Radio and hosting my own show to being a general member and graphic designer for the Investments Club. My media skills have become fine tuned to wear I can whip up business cards in 20 minutes. On another note, I've made it important to my music life that I attend more concerts. I was able to catch N.E.R.D. and Common in concert Oct. 1st at the Orpheum here in Boston. It was amazing and I really love Pharrell live with all the instrumentation. I love how musicians are starting to realize that in studio and live instrumentation should have never gone away and they are starting to go back to it. I personally love live music in studio and believed it should have never stopped being that way. Artists, especially those who are in it to make money, just sing or rap over a pre-recorded track and think they are performing. Really I think performance is the ability to utilize your gift but also work with the musicians to create something that is magical. Many of the greatest bands and groups from eras past still resonate with us because there is that human connection and the ability for there to be error. It's funny because I enjoy really precise music like Industrial, Synth pop, New Wave, techno that must be perfect in terms of the form of music. I actually get mad when someone does a cover of a band like Yazoo and the instrumentation isn't dead on! But really who can try to cover a song done by the fabulous Alison Moyet? Anyway, I attended a IBS radio conference at school today and it was such a great event. I met some really nice and experienced media people at the conference which is really important for me becoming more comfortable in radio and media in general. I need to break out of the fear of talking amongst or to an audience. So as music director, I will manage the music of the entire station and make sure we are getting quality music and airing local artists. It's a daunting task but I love music as it is the soundtrack to my life. Music fuels my ideas, thoughts and everything that I do. My bff(passionate friendship) keeps me sane amongst all the things going on. She's amazingly sweet, understanding and listens to me. But before i get to mushy, MGMT is the band to be listening to. Usually I'm wary of new artist because they tend to be unoriginal and a horrible parody of classic artist but this time it's different. MGMT isn't reinventing the wheel but they have an authentic 70's funk sound that get you groovin'. The bass, melody, lyrics and compositions of the songs are of absolute quality. check out electric feel and see what I mean:

for fear of rambling (wait, isn't that what a blog is for??) lol I'm cooking dinner tonight with my bff and having a great time. More music updates tomorrow when I have my devoted "Lazy Sunday"

I used to rule to world, seas would rise when I gave the word...

Updated my blog with a freshhh new background, I've been awake since 1pm yesterday for no apparent reason, I watched the sunrise for the first time in eons, read about how to do light painting and searched around for grunge vector images, I really want to design some shirts but since I don't have a spiffy new Macbook with the Adobe Suite, i'm out of luck. I guess I could get some high-res images from stoc.xchng(http://www.sxc.hu) print them out and do some sick iron-ons :)

ohhh some books I want to read: How to Talk dirty and Influence People by Lenny Bruce, Many Shots of False Hope by Laura Kightlinger (her show, which only had two season was/is f**kin hilarious to the core, called The Minor Accomplishments of Jackie Woodman on IFC), The Room of Lost Things, Nigella Lawson's autobiography...hmm, looks like I need to make a trip to the librario.

Please check out Quantic, which I have been listening to heavily since his musical masterpieces are used in the promos on the American Movie Classics channel. it's really chill, urban, eclectic music with infusions of jazz, soul, funk and dub, and sprinkle of trip-hop. His album, The 5th Exotic is a masterpiece in his body of work. He has even been compared to Quincy Jones, which is completely major. Peep his myspace

I can divinate your presence from afar...

It's the 30th anniversary of Blondie's 1978 album, Parallel Lines, a bona fide classic! This has to be one of my favorite albums of all time, with it's pop/punk/girl-group sensibilities and the yearnings of the beginning of New Wave (basically born from Glam rock, only more narcissistic lol). Debbie and the boy are on tour for the 30th anniversary tour and also have a stint on the True Colors Tour featuring Cyndi Lauper (who has a fabulous single out "In to the Night Life" which is brilliant!). There is also a 12-track DVD of videos for the albums' songs which is definitely a must have for any die hard fan.

Blondie today.

I just got back into listening to their 1979 album, Eat to the Beat today and it's such a fresh breath of air and really stands the test of time. If you want to know what being cool is about listen to this album, it will color your world and make you sweat (from the vigorous dancing and spazzing lol).

Debbie also has a fabulous solo effort she released last year called Necessary Evil, that is definitely packing more punch than solo artists many years her junior! I must say my favorite tracks on the album are School for Scandal, Charm Redux, Whiteout and Heat of the Moment.

If you can catch Blondie on either tour this summer, it's definitely worth the steep price for tickets :)

just a couple of quick musings...I heart Nigella Lawson. Sensual cooking with great recipes and of course Nigella (looking even tastier than her food :) If you can watch her television show on saturday early mornings on the Food Network or BBC 2, you'll be captivated. The cinematography is phenomenal with its sharp contrast, sultry lighting, and intimate feel. Grab her latest book Nigella Express (retails about $31.50) and whip up a couple of "fast food" recipes. Her chocopots are exquisite! I really enjoy her chatty yet intelligent writing style...honestly this book is in my bedroom most of the time when not in the kitchen! I find it to be such a good read in the evening lying in bed.

The Domestic Goddess, absolutely gorgeous :)

Craig Ferguson, host of The Late Late Show is hilarious to me, I love his Scottish accent, irreverent humor, his dashing good looks, and the fact he never fails to dress up as a woman in the small skits done frequently on the show! The musical guests on the show are always great, he tends to stay away from the obviously awful rising musicians (yes!).

Another guilty pleasure... watching the outrageous schtick of Melissa Peterman (aka Barbra Jean on Reba) on Lifetime... I'm sure going to TiVo the Christmas in July-themed special to air on Lifetime this Friday July 4th called the Fa La La Fourth from 9am-11pm. Melissa Peterman is so hilarious I can't even begin to say and she is looking more fabulous than ever (looking hella good too!)! In case you didn't know she is quite accomplished, generous, down to earth and a sweetheart!

she is just hilarious, i wish i could hang out with her :) and please, check out melissapeterman.net!

[He, I won't type his name because he is scum] is an idiot and an absolute dog to cheat on THE Christie Brinkley! How could you do such a crazy thing, I cannot fathom it! She is exponentially beautiful, intelligent, accomplished, sweet and didn't deserve this pain and embarrassment. My heart really goes out to her, it was quite tough seeing her walk into court(on tv) and have tears in her eyes.

"she's got it, yeah baby she's got it!" at 54 years old, she puts women half her age to shame!

over and out.

You're a voluptuous pain in the neck...

I watched 2 really awesome movies yesterday, Dishonored Lady (with the beautiful Hedy Lamarr) and The Strange Love of Martha Ivers (with the brassy yet beautiful Barbara Stanwyck and Lizabeth Scott). Check them out on youtube, you'll be glad you did. I just love film noir, with its dark yet sharp cinematography, witty banter, suspense, characters and wonderful plot development. Good thing a few of these films are in the public domain and have been upload on youtube. This site (http://filmsnoir.net/) is a pretty comprehensive guide to film noir and the films thought to be as such. I highly recommend Mildred Pierce, Rebecca, The Big Sleep, Sunset Boulevard, Gun Crazy ( Deadly As The Female) and The Blue Dahlia.

on another note:
I miss Kirstie Alley! One of my favorite actresses ever! I miss seeing her in films and on tv, I love her distinctive voice, her sharp wit and the fact she is completely hilarious! :) I don't care what people say about her weight (I think she looks great), her religion (Scientology) or her career, I adore her to pieces. That was such a great move to link up with Oprah, I really need to see some Kirstie on tv :)

she's absolutely beautiful!!... I can't believe she is 57!!! I hope to look half as good as her when I'm that age.

The Celtics kicked the Lakers asses the other night, and I want them to win on Sunday! Go Celtics! Beat LA! Beat LA! Beat LA!

when people run in circles its a very very Mad World...

Image and video hosting by TinyPic
Sylvester Marcus( Dick Shawn) and Mrs. Marcus(Ethel Merman) and Sylvester's girlfriend (Barrie Chase)...this is the most hilarious scene ever...check out the beatnik dancing...they are totally on something...lol

check out 1963's It's A Mad Mad Mad Mad World, chock full of celebs from the golden age of hollywood, pure slapstick and Ethel Merman(she's absolutely brilliant in this movie, she had me cracking up!!)

Indeed it's a mad mad mad mad world, considering all that is going these days.

One of my favorite actors, Paul Newman has lung cancer! It's so upsetting. I really enjoyed his films, especially Cool Hand Luke(1967) ,one of my top 25 films of all time. I really wish for a recovery because lung cancer, if caught in the later stages only gives you 4-6 months to live. We've lost Suzanne Pleshette(in Hitchcock's The Birds, the Bob Newhart Show, Karen Walker's mother on Will and Grace) to lung caner last year. My heart goes out to him and his wife of 50 years, Joanne Woodward.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic
Paul in Cool Hand Luke...gorgeous hunk of man, wasn't he?

continuing with my 1960's kick, the song "California Soul" by Marlena Shaw which is featured in the Dockers commercial is stuck in my head. They play this commercial during the Celtics games.! It gives off such a summer vibe, i've added it to a newly created playlist. check it out.

Celtics are in the Finals, Beat LA! Rondo, Allen, House, Garnett, Pierce, Posey, Brown etc. YOU HAND THEIR ASSES TO THEM! we need to make history! it's been 21 years!
